A new report issued by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization on Monday stated that aquaculture will remain one of the fastest growing animal production sectors, increasing by 33% over the next ten years. By 2021 world fisheries and aquaculture are expected to produce approximately 172 million tons, up 15% from 2009-2011 with continued globalization of the fisheries supply chain. By 2018, farmed fish are expected to outpace captured fish for human consumption for the first time; and by 2021 worldwide per capita consumption of fish is expected to rise to 19.6kg, up 16% from 2009-2011.
