Corn Production Forecast Cut to 838 Million Tons by IGC

The International Grains Council (IGC) predicts that the global corn harvest for 2012 will be 838 metric tons. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) currently predicts a U.S. corn harvest of 275 million tons (the lowest in six years) and a total global corn harvest of 849 million tons.  Ukraine, the world’s 3rd largest corn exporter is expected to produce 20 million tons in 2012.  The International Grains Council (IGC) also predicts Australia’s wheat crop to be 23 million tons, and the EU wheat crop to be 133.1 million tons.  Global soybean production is estimated to be 255 million tons, an increase of 7% over last year due to higher yields from South America.
