Walnuts are California’s fourth largest export item. California accounts for 99% of U.S. walnut production, and supplies 75% of the walnuts for world trade. The United States Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistic Service California Field Office has released the annual crop estimates stating that the walnut harvest for 2012-13 will be 470,000 short tons – the second largest walnut harvest on record.
