Pistachio Crops Continue Cracking Growth

 

More and more pistachio acreage is being planted in the San Joaquin Valley in California to keep pace with demand.  This year a record crop of between 550-575 million pounds of pistachios is expected, and the American Pistachio Growers estimates that the industry will reach a 1 billion pound yield by 2018-2020.  In the past eight years California has more than doubled pistachio exports from 100 million pounds in 2004 to more than 275 million pounds in 2012.  Since 2005, 10,000 additional acres of pistachios trees have been planted per year.
