We were pretty surprised when we heard this, but this story claims that India is set to become the world’s number one beef exporter. India’s beef production surged more than 300,000 tons this year compared to last, driving India’s beef exports to top 1.5 million tons and overtaking Australia as the world’s leading beef exporter. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that India’s beef herd will grow to 325 this year – 10 times bigger than Australia’s 30 million. Much of the increase is due to India’s low cost of buffalo meat. India’s buffalo meat industry has become one of the largest bovine meat producers/exporters in the world.
