Harn, a founder and CEO of Sustainable Farm Partners, first saw the advantages of organic production when he converted his family farms. Harn’s broad background includes farming as a young man in Iowa, getting a degree in music in Colorado, a career in media and technology in Silicon Valley and today back to farming. His 16-year music career included artists like George Winston, 15 years as an entrepreneur in media technology, marketing and design for leading technology companies including Harris, Pinnacle, and Avid. All the while keeping close contact with his family’s farms. In 2008 he returned to his farming roots in Iowa where he lead his family’s century farms from conventional farming into organics while conducting research on aerobic/anaerobic compost systems for on-farm use. Harn is a member of Practical Farmers of Iowa, on the board of the Organic Farming Research Foundation and serves as an industry advisor for the Non-GMO Working Group under Green America.
