Foodtech Startup Now Valued at $100 Million

After recent rounds of fundraising including a $1.5 million raising from Lerer Hippeau Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, followed by a $10 million raising led by Andreessen Horowitz, which had later been updated to a $20 million investment, with participation from Lerer Venture and Index Ventures, meal-replacement foodtech startup, Soylent has gained a valuation in excess of $100 million. The company uses science to improve food and nutrition through the production of shakes consisting of 100% of the daily required vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients usually obtained through solid food. The shakes are classified as a food by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as opposed to a supplement, and cost approximately $3 each.
