Marine Harvest to Invest $26 Million in Chile Value-Added Salmon Plant

November 18, 2014

On September 15, the world’s largest salmon farming company, Norway-based Marine Harvest, acquired Chile’s Acuinova Chile, including a hatchery, smolt facility, primary and secondary processing facilities, and 36 sea licenses for $120 million.  The purchase will now allow Marine Harvest to reap the full benefits of the company’s unused potential by allowing the company use of its own dormant existing licenses in Chile, and giving Marine Harvest the infrastructure it needs to ramp up production. Currently the Acuinova assets have the capacity to produce 40,000 tons of salmon products per year but through a $26 million investment, Marine Harvest plans for this capacity to increase to 65,000 tons per year with the further potential to expand to 90,000 tons per year by 2019.
