GAI News – Looking Forward and Back: Top 10 Stories of 2017

December 22, 2017

Hello Readers,

Do you feel the same as me? That each year passes more rapidly than the last?

As the final days of 2017 approach, there is an innate desire to simultaneously look back upon the meaningful developments of the past 12 months, and to look forward to the exciting possibilities that await us in the new year. In ancient Rome this meaningful part of the human existence was embodied by the god Janus – the god of transitions, beginnings, endings, gateways, birth, journeys, and exchanges. Depicted by two faces, one looking back and the other forward, Janus gave us the word for January, and symbolized transitions from one state to another.

Journeys, transitions, exchanges, beginnings, and even endings are all relevant terms when reflecting upon the dynamic past year, and the potential opportunities the new year holds for both agricultural investment and Global AgInvesting. The asset class continues to come into its own, reflected by a year of record-breaking funding rounds, innovative new investment vehicles, rewarding exits, and greater engagement on the part of institutional investors.

The past year also has been exciting for GAI News. We have enriched our offerings – transitioning to a free weekly News format, and launching our new Agtech Intel News platform. And as we turn our eyes toward the coming year, we are excited to invite you all to engage with the preeminent gathering of global agricultural investment industry leaders at our 10th annual Global AgInvesting conference in New York, April 23-25. (To save an extra $300 and get the lowest possible rates, register by Friday.)

From the entire GAI News team, we wish you all the happiest of holidays and a prosperous, healthy new year.

Lynda Kiernan, Editor
